How to Publish Your Own 7x9 Soft Cover Book
- 1). Make sure each 8 ½ by 11 inch sheet of paper has been cut down to 7 by 9 inches using the paper trimmer. Cut 1 ½ inches from the right margin and 2 inches off the bottom edge. This leaves a 7 by 9 inch page. Remember to trim the card stock cover to the correct size.
- 2). Make sure each page of text has a 1 inch margin on all four sides.
- 3). Create the front and back covers for your book. This can be done with 2 sheets of card stock in any color you choose. Do the artwork or have an artist friend complete it. A simple illustration along with the title of the book and the author's name are all you need on the front. Look at covers on other books to get ideas.
You can put a one-paragraph biography on the back cover. Place ordering information on one of the last pages or as a separate insert. - 4). Print the pages from your computer on the pre-punched paper, making sure you turn each page as it prints so that the next page is in the correct position.
- 5). Lay a sheet of the pre-punched paper on top of the card stock front cover so that the holes are lined up on the left edge. Mark each hole with a pencil. Use a razor blade or other sharp edge to cut the holes. Do the same thing for the back cover. They can be punched by machine if one is available.
- 6). Place the pages together in correct order with the front and back covers.
Insert the first prong of the comb binder into the first hole at the top of the book. Then insert each prong down the spine of the book.
