How to Make a Lantana Cutting
- 1). Fill a flower pot with vermiculite. Moisten it thoroughly with water.
- 2). Take a 4-inch cutting with a sharp knife from the new growth of an established lantana plant. Cut the stem at a 45-degree angle to create a wide surface for water and rooting hormone to penetrate.
- 3). Strip all but the top two sets of leaves from the stem with your fingers. Pinch off any blossoms. Dip the bottom 2 inches of stem in rooting hormone.
- 4). Poke the hormone-covered end of the stem in the wet vermiculite to a depth of 2 inches. Tamp the vermiculite firmly down around the stem. Place the flower pot in a spot where it will get partial shade.
- 5). Keep the potted lantana cutting moist for the next several weeks while it develops new roots. When the cutting resists being pulled from the vermiculite, roots are sufficiently developed for planting in soil.
