    • 1). Locate the exact entrance and exit point on the roof the honeybees are using to get to their hive. Common locations on the roof of a home that honeybees favor using for their hives are along the roof eaves. Honeybees are less active in the early morning and evening. These hours are the best time to locate the hive, since the honeybees will most likely be entering or exiting the opening.

    • 2). Gather all safety equipment such as goggles, a filter mask, white long-sleeved shirt, long, white pants, gloves and a white hat. Honeybees have been shown to prefer darker colors, so any clothing you wear should be a neutral white. Use duct tape to secure all openings such as pants, gloves and shirt cuffs. If you prefer to remain extra cautious, purchase or borrow a full beekeeping suit.

    • 3). Purchase a bee pesticide from any home-improvement store. Lightly place the ladder up against the house, close to where the honeybee opening is located. Put on all safety clothing and wait until early evening or morning to spray the hive. Climb the ladder with the can of pesticide in hand. Spray into the honeybee hive until the inside of opening is thoroughly soaked. Be extremely careful, as some honeybees may come out of opening, ready to attack.

    • 4). Climb down from the ladder and wait until morning to check the hive again. Study the opening and make sure there are no more honeybees entering or exiting in the early morning. If honeybees are spotted, another spraying should be done that evening. Repeat this process until no more honeybees are spotted around the opening.

    • 5). Remove the nest and all honeycomb material from behind the honeybee opening. With all safety clothing back on, climb the ladder and locate the honeycomb. If the honeycomb is within site, use a broom handle to knock it down. Call a professional if the honeycomb is in an inaccessible location such as behind an exterior wall.
