    • 1). Find a Pop Warner program in your area. The official Pop Warner website offers a listing by state. See the "Resources" section for more information and to locate a league in your area.

    • 2). While this may not apply to the cheerleading and dance program, check the age and weight requirements if you're interested in Pop Warner football. Pop Warner mandates that football players of the same age and weight play in the same league. For example, the Tiny-Mite Division, is for players 5 to 7 years of age that weight between 35 and 75 lbs. The Mitey-Mite Division is for players 7 to 9 years of age from 45 to 90 lbs. The Junior Pee Wee Division is for players 8 to 10 years of age from 60 to 105 lbs. The Pee Wee Division is for players 9 through 11 years of age weighing 75 to 120 lbs. The Junior Midget Division is for players 10 through 12 years of age weighing 85 to 135 lbs. The Midget Division is for players ages 11 to 14 weighing 105 to 160 lbs. Finally, the Unlimited Division is for players 12 through 15 years of age weight 170 lbs. or more. There are special exceptions such as a player who is a year older, but still within the weight range may be able to be cleared to play in a younger league.     • 3). Fill out the registration form and pay the required fee. Each local program may have a slightly different registration form. However, you will need to provide basic contact information such as the child's name, address and your home phone number. According to the Pop Warner website, the registration fee is about $40 to $100. Along with the registration form, you will need to show or provide a copy of the child's birth certificate so that his age can be verified. This will ensure he is placed in the correct division.

    • 4). Players have to get a physical exam. Some Pop Warner programs may require that the participant receive a physical for insurance purposes. If this is required, make an appointment with your child's pediatrician. The Pop Warner league may provide a form that the pediatrician needs to sign that is then returned to the league office for filing.

    • 5). Provide proof of academic success. Pop Warner does require participants to have at least a 2.0 grade point average or 70 percent average grade. There are exceptions if a child is showing progress, See the "Resources" section below for more information.

    • 6). Receive your team assignment. Different Pop Warner leagues form teams in different ways. However, one thing that is uniform among all Pop Warner divisions is that there are no tryouts for either the football or cheer and dance programs.
