How to Restore My Windows XP Operating System
- 1). Shut any windows, browsers and Web programs you have open on your computer.
- 2). Look at your desktop and find the "Start" button. Right click on "Start" and then select "All Programs."
- 3). Select "Accessories" when the "All Programs" menu opens up. From the "Accessories" menu, choose "System Tools."
- 4). Click on "System Restore." When the System Restore window opens, select the option of restoring your computer to an earlier time. At this point you will see a calendar in the window. From the calendar, select a date that you wish to set your Windows XP operating system back to. Available restore points are highlighted in bold print.
- 5). Confirm that you wish to restore Windows XP, and click "Next." At this point your computer will begin the restoration process. It will take approximately 10 minutes. When the computer shuts down and reboots, you will see a notification that the System Restore has been completed successfully. Click "OK."
