How to Prune Brown Leaves From a Camellia
- 1). Cut away individual leaves browned by sun burn, drought stress or suspected over-use of fertilizers with secateurs to remove the brown material leaving green foliage on healthy wood.
- 2). Prune away old branches that have only dying or dead brown leaves down to the parent branch or crown of the plant with loppers or a hand saw.
- 3). Prune away dull green, yellowing or browning leaves and branches that may be infected with the camellia die-back or fungal canker caused by Glomerella cingulata. Use your loppers or hand saw to place cuts down to the point of healthy wood. Clean your cutting blades between each cut with a clean rag or cotton pad doused in isopropyl alcohol to kill the fungus and prevent the transfer of the spores to new wound site on the camellia shrub.
