How to Build a Dressing Table
- 1). Place the piece of 31-inch-by-40-inch plywood on a building surface so it is standing vertically and is resting on one of its 40-inch edges. This will be the back of the table. Place a piece of 31-inch by 23-1/4-inch plywood on the building surface so it is vertical on its 23-1/4-inch edge. Create an "L" shape by placing the smaller board next to the larger one. The smaller board will create a side of the table. Screw the back to the side by driving screws spaced 6 inches apart through the back and into the edges of the side pieces. Repeat this step for the other 31-inch by 23-1/4-inch board on the opposite side of the larger piece of plywood to create a U shape. (An alternative to screwing the boards to one another is to use L-shaped brackets to connect them.)
- 2). Measure 11 1/2-inches from the side pieces toward the center of the back piece and mark this spot. Place the other two pieces of 31-inch by 23-1/4-inch plywood at these locations so they are parallel to the side pieces. Screw them to the back piece in the same manner as you did the side pieces. The 11-1/2-inch space on either side of the table will create cabinets.
- 3). Place a piece of 11-1/2-inch by 23-1/4-inch plywood on the surface in between the table's sides and the cabinet sides to create the cabinet bottoms. Screw these pieces into place by driving screws that are spaced 4 to 6 inches apart through both the table and the cabinet sides into the edges of the cabinet bottom.
- 4). Place the piece of 24-inch by 40-inch plywood on top of the existing frame. This is the table top. Screw this piece to the frame by driving in screws through the top of the table and into the edges of the frame. The screws should be placed about 6 inches apart.
- 5). Measure up from the bottom piece of each cabinet 1 foot toward the table top and make a mark. Place a piece of 11-1/2-inch by 23-1/4-inch piece inside the cabinet at this location. Screw this to the cabinets in the same manner as you did in Step 3. Repeat this for the final two pieces of 11-1/2-inch by 23-1/4-inch shelf pieces, measuring 1 foot from the shelves you just placed and screwing it into the sides.
- 6). Place the interior hinges on opposite sides of the table cabinets spaced three inches from the top and bottom. Screw them into the sides of the table. Place the pieces of 31-inch by 13-inch plywood on the hinges and screw them into place. These are the cabinet doors. Screw in door handles to each door on the opposite side of the hinges.
