Growing Zones

• North Carolina ranges from USDA Growing Zone 6 in the west of the state to Zone 8 in the east, where the state borders the Atlantic Ocean. Although vegetables will grow throughout all of these zones, Zone 8 provides more flexibility in regard to timing and vegetable selection.

• Vegetables also require full, complete drainage in their site, and will fail in standing water. Gardeners in North Carolina should choose sites that drain quickly after the state's frequent rainstorms.
