How to Use Grass Clippings as a Weed Barrier

    • 1). Dig up any weeds in the area where you'd like to place the weed barrier. Use a shovel. Level the ground with a rake in a back-and-forth motion.

    • 2). Mow your lawn with a mower equipped with a grass bagger. Dump the clippings on the ground in a pile in the area where you want to set up the weed barrier.

    • 3). Rake the grass around the area, spreading it out, until the coverage is 2 to 3 inches deep. Add more clippings throughout the season in areas where wind has moved the grass or where the grass has decomposed.
