How to Install Wheel Chocks for Campers

    • 1). Decide what type of wheel chocks you need for your vehicle. Smaller campers work well with lightweight chocks, but a larger trailer will need a large, solid set of chocks. You can purchase chocks that either slide under your wheel and support it or a block style that you place next to the wheel to secure the vehicle. If you choose the block style, make sure that they are tall enough to come at least halfway up your tires.

    • 2). Park your vehicle on a flat, stable surface. Don't set your camper up in an uneven area, since shifting can occur and cause damage and injuries.

    • 3). Apply the parking brake on your vehicle if you are leaving it hooked up to your trailer. The parking brake works to keep the back wheels on your car from shifting and will help stabilize your camper.

    • 4). Set the wheel chocks on the ground and drive onto them if using the ramp-style chocks. Place them on a stable surface with no rocks or debris that will cause damage. You can tie your chocks together with a section of rope to prevent them from becoming separated.

    • 5). Place the block-style chocks either behind the tire or in between them if the trailer has two axles. Push them firmly against the tire, clearing the area around the chock and the tire to ensure a tight fit.

    • 6). Push against the vehicle to make sure your chocks are placed properly. If your camper does not move, rock or shift, then you know that you have properly installed your wheel chocks.
