    • 1). Log back on to your computer and press the "F8" key as it is starting up. Tap the "F8" key lightly but repeatedly while the computer is booting. Once the boot menu comes up, choose "Safe Mode" from the menu and allow your computer to boot into safe mode. As soon as you log on to the computer in safe mode you will have the option to start the System Restore process.

    • 2). Choose a restore point from before your computer crashed and click "Next." The system restore process will take your computer back in time, to a time before the crash first happened. When the restore process is complete the computer will automatically reboot, and when you log on you will be able to accept or reject the restoration.

    • 3). If the system restore process does not fix your problem, insert the restore CD that came with your computer into your DVD drive. If you do not have a restore CD, contact your computer's manufacturer to order a replacement. During the restore process your computer's hard drive will be reformatted, and the entire operating system will be reinstalled.

    • 4). Insert the operating system CD when prompted and wait for the installation to complete. After the restoration is complete, log on to the computer and make sure it is functioning properly.
