How to Fix the Driver's Window on a 2006 Camry
- 1). Test the window to see if the motor still runs by pressing the power down button. If you hear a whirring, but the window is stuck, then you may have a roller issue. If you hear nothing, then you have a bad motor or fuse, which may need replacing.
- 2). Check if the window moves but is slow or gets stuck. This could mean a torn gasket or roller issue as well. There also could be an object lodged inside causing the disruption.
- 3). Look inside after the door panel is removed to fully investigate the problem, as the regulator could also be faulty and in need of replacing.
- 1). Start by removing all the trim pieces and screws on the door panel. There are several pieces that need to be removed before you can start to unsnap the door panel from the frame. These are the sail piece at the top right (opposite the sideview mirror), the circular beauty piece on the top right of the door panel, inside the arm rest hole (under the rubber flap), inside the door handle, and the two screws at the bottom of the door panel. Keep these trim pieces in a safe place.
- 2). Unscrew the bolts underneath the beauty piece with a screwdriver. Then remove the screw inside the door handle and inside the arm rest, then remove the two at the bottom. Keep all the screws in a safe place for reassembly.
- 3). Pull the armrest plastic up gently until the wires are exposed. Unsnap the wires from the plastic piece and set aside. A screw is now exposed from under the arm rest, you will need to remove this screw and set aside.
- 4). Grab the bottom of the panel with your hands and pull until the panel unsnaps. Continue to lift upwards until all unsnap except for the locks. You will need to hold the panel by the top and reach inside to unlock the wires from the door, freeing the panel to be set aside.
- 5). Disconnect the regular and electrical connector. Once the door panel is removed, look inside the right side of the arm rest and find the regulator just below, then disconnect the electrical wires. Your owner's manual has a diagram for further instruction on the regulator.
- 1). Look at the middle of the door where a large block is removed and the window is glass is exposed beneath. Find the rollers and tracks that the window sits upon. If these appear corroded or bald, or other mishap, then they need replacing.
- 2). Remove the rollers by unscrewing them from the track. Once removed, you can replace the old rollers with new ones.
- 3). Apply lubricant to the new rollers and tracks so the windows easily roll up and down. You need white lithium grease, also available at auto parts or hardware stores, such as Auto Zone or Lowes.
- 4). Slide the new rollers back onto the freshly lubed tracks. Reconnect all the electrical connectors of the regulator and reassemble the door panel.
- 1). Find two bolts at the top inside of the door holding window clamps in place. Loosen the bolts and lift the window out of the door.
- 2). Remove the screws holding the regulator in place and pull the regulator from the casing underneath the arm rest. In the same area, remove the motor by unscrewing or drilling out the rivets that hold the motor in place.
- 3). Replace with a new motor or regulator. You can purchase a new power window motor for your model online or at any Auto Zone or Toyota dealership. Refasten all rivets and bolts, and replace window.
