How to Correct Alkaline or Acid PH
- 1). Pour the solution into a beaker.
- 2). Cut off a piece of the pH paper.
- 3). Put the end of the pH paper strip into the water container
- 4). Take the pH paper out after two to three seconds, and compare its color with the scale included with the pH paper pack to determine the solution pH.
- 5). Decide which compound to use to correct pH. If the solution in the beaker is acidic (pH is below 7) then use sodium hydroxide to raise pH. Alternatively, if the solution is basic (alkaline) with pH above 7 then you need hydrochloric acid for lowering pH.
- 6). Fill the plastic pipette with the hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide solution.
- 7). Add 1 to 2 drops from the pipette to the solution in the beaker.
- 8). Determine the new pH of the solution as described in Steps 2 to 4.
- 9). Continue Steps 7 and 8 until you get a desired pH value.
