How to Lower a Torsion Bar
- 1). Jack up the vehicle at the wheel of the desired torsion bar. The suspension should not have a load at the torsion bar to adjust it---the adjustment bolt will turn easier.
- 2). Locate and turn the torsion bar adjustment bolt in a counter-clockwise direction. The bolt will usually be mounted upward, accessible from underneath the torsion bar mount. The mount could have a segregated bolt off to one side or it could be incorporated into the center of the mount plate.
- 3). Lower the vehicle from the jack stands. Check the frame to ground measurements to ensure progress. The process may have to be repeated to achieve the desired height. Turning the bolt clockwise will raise the car.
- 4). Repeat the procedure for the opposite torsion bar, making sure the car remains balanced. Adjusting one bar further than the other will cause the vehicle to lean to one side.
