Mural Planning

• While a mural may seem like a huge task, it is actually quite simple if properly planned. If you plan to draw your monkeys freehand, then you must practice on paper to determine what monkeys you can draw easily. There are dozens of different tutorials online that will provide you with basic instructions on how to draw a cartoon monkey. You can start by drawing straight on the wall if you use a pencil, which will allow you to erase mistakes.
  
  For those who aren't as confident in their freehand drawing skills, wall stencils are available. You tape these stencils up with painter's tape and trace the monkey's shape. After removing the stencil, you fill in the color of the monkey using paint.

• For some, painting monkeys on the wall is not enough. Ambitious parents can plan an interactive monkey mural for their children. You can create a two-dimensional mural by using felt or fake fur for the monkey's body or fake leaves for the tree tops.
  
  Other ideas include using blackboard paint as a background for the monkeys and allowing kids to draw in their own backgrounds or other objects. Use magnetic paints with magnetic monkey cutouts to create an interactive, interchangeable monkey mural that kids can play with or create new characters to add to their wall. You can also use glitter or glow-in-the-dark paints to create the sun or stars. New technologies have also brought about color-changing paints that can be used to create a one-of-a-kind mural.
