How to Install a Glove Box Stereo
- 1). Disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable using an adjustable wrench.
- 2). Remove the plastic bezel that surrounds the factory stereo by gently prying it away from the dashboard of the vehicle using a panel removal tool. Remove the screws that secure the stereo in place with a screwdriver. Slide the stereo forward exposing the wires.
- 3). Unplug the stereo's wiring harness from the vehicle's wiring harness by pulling them apart. Reroute the vehicles wiring harness to the vehicle's glove box. Slide the stereo back into place. Reinsert the screws to secure the stereo. Press the plastic bezel back into place.
- 4). Remove the glove box using the schematics found in the vehicle's owner's manual for reference. The process to remove the glove box will vary depending upon the vehicle. Remove a section in the back of the glove box large enough to accommodate an aftermarket wiring harness using a hole saw. Install the stereo glove box mounting kit, which consists of two individual brackets, one for each side of the glove box, by following the manufacturer's instructions and securing each bracket with the provided screws and a screwdriver.
- 5). Attach an aftermarket wiring harness to the aftermarket stereo by matching the colored wires of the stereo to the colored wires of the harness. Twist the bare ends of the corresponding wires together. Wrap each connection in electrical tape. Plug the aftermarket wiring harness into the vehicle's wiring harness by pushing them together. Slide the aftermarket stereo into the stereo glove box mounting bracket. Secure the stereo to the brackets using the provided screws and a screwdriver.
- 6). Reinstall the glove box into the vehicle's dashboard. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
