    • 1). Open the hood of your Dodge truck and locate the batteries. There should be two batteries that power the electrical equipment installed in your 1993 Dodge truck. Unscrew the bolt that holds each of the black terminals to each battery, then disconnect these terminal cables from the battery. Be sure to move these terminal cables far away from the battery and any other metal surfaces of the engine bay to avoid electrical grounding.

    • 2). Position the recycling container underneath the Dodge's radiator. Twist off the radiator filler cap to relieve pressure in this system. Pull the drainage plug out by twisting, and let all of the engine coolant drain into the container. If you wish to replace the engine coolant after installing the new head gaskets, you may do so. Otherwise, move the coolant container aside for later use.

    • 3). Remove the engine cover to access the electrical wiring, hoses and manifolds. Tag all of the electrical wiring and hoses to avoid confusion when you are reinstalling these parts. Loosen the fastening hardware that holds the air intake tube to the engine's intake manifold. Pull this intake tube away from the manifold. If necessary, use a flat-head screwdriver to separate these two parts.

    • 4). Disconnect the electrical wiring from behind the engine's alternator. Unscrew the bolts that hold this alternator to the corresponding brackets, then lift out of the engine. Tag and remove the fuel lines from their respective fuel rails. Pull the distributor cap off the distributor and detach the electrical wiring from the ignition coil. Remove all remaining electrical wiring, hoses and cables that attach to the intake manifold and set aside.

    • 5). Unscrew the bolts that hold the intake manifold and valve cover, using the necessary socket wrenches. Pull these parts off the engine block slowly, setting them aside for later use. Take note of how the exhaust manifold, rocker arms and pushrods are positioned. Dismantle these parts and set these aside, as well.

    • 6). Unscrew each of the bolts that hold the cylinder head to the engine block, and pull off to remove completely. Pull the head gasket off the engine block and discard. If the head gasket is stuck to the engine block or to the bottom of the cylinder head, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry this gasket off of its attached part.

    • 7). Scrape away any material that has built up on the engine block. Use gasket removal solvent with a small linen cloth to wipe away any remaining debris on the engine. Stuff the cylinder ports with clean rags, then clean the bottom of the cylinder head.

    • 8). Place the new head gasket down on the engine block, ensuring that the top of the gasket faces up. This replacement gasket will be clearly marked to avoid installation confusion. The new gasket will fit securely over the bolt studs and should align with the cylinder ports. Torque each of the cylinder head bolts to 40 foot-pounds, then torque them to 90 foot-pounds to secure.

    • 9). Reinstall all of the engine parts, electrical wiring, cables and hoses that were removed to access the cylinder head. You should, ideally, replace the parts in the opposite order that they were removed.

Pour the old engine coolant, or new if replacing, back into the engine's radiator. Replace the radiator filler cap when you are finished.

Connect both of the black terminal cables back to the batteries. Secure these terminal cables with the provided bolt.
