How do I Turn Magnets for Electricity?
- 1). Cut a hole in the cardboard box wide enough for the dowel to fit in. It must be wide enough to allow the dowel to spin freely. The hole should go through both of the 4-by-4-inch ends. Insert the dowel through the hole.
- 2). Wind the copper wire around the box perpendicular to the hole. Do not cover the hole with wire.
- 3). Remove any coating on the ends of the wire with scissors. Connect the ends of the wire to the light bulb. Secure them with Scotch tape.
- 4). Cut out two opposite ends of the cardboard box. These should be the 1-by-4-inch ends.
- 5). Secure the magnets to the dowel on opposite sides of each other using Scotch tape. Make sure the dowel can still rotate freely with the magnets mounted.
- 6). Spin the dowel with the drill. This will induce a current in the copper wire, which will light up the bulb.
