Aluminum Roof Vent Installation

    Preparation

    • Wear loose clothing and boots with good treads and angle support. Read and follow all of the safety instructions given. Only work is dry, calm weather and keep a look out for loose or slippery shingles. Do not go near power lines or antennas.

Remove any pre-existing roof vents. Cut a hole into the roof that matches the size of the roof vent frame. Clear away the appropriate section around the attic wall and cut a hole in the wall there as well with the correct measurements. Use a jigsaw drill to make these cuts and ensure that they are cut straight with well-shaped corners.

    Assembly

    • Put the roof vent together in another area that is safe and won't damage the roof vent. This area must be clean and level. Take the roof vent lid from the body. To do this, open it by 45 degrees and unhinge it. Remove the bottom part of the lid frame by taking the screws out of both sides. Slide the glass into it without damaging the gaskets. Use plastic packer when you are glazing the glass. Put silicone sealant into the corners of the frame lids and place the lids back onto the cleats and screw them into place. Wipe off any extra silicone. Slide push-in gasket into the profile of the lid to miter the corners.

Fit the vent body into either the glazing panel, ridge. Use silicone to seal the top section of the panel at the 'H' section. Avoid putting too much silicone into this area as it can prevent correct drainage. Wipe off any excess silicone. Put the vent body into the ridge and push it upwards. Apply silicone to the bottom of the 'H' section and slide in the bottom panel again, not using too much silicone. Clamp the vent body and the glazing panels into place with the glazing bar cappings. Install the roof vent lid onto the aluminum hinge rider in the opposite of the way that you removed it. Connect the mechanism used to open the lid to the lid bracket.

    Putting it in Place

    • Use a safe ladder to get up on the roof and bring the screws and a screw driver with you. Test the roof from the outside to see if it is strong enough to hold the vent.

Fit the vent into the hole that was cut and secure it with screws. Cover the area with caulk and insulation or weather stripping.
