Ixora Coccinea Flowers Activity
- Individual Ixora coccinea flowers have four petals apiece, fused at the base to form a tube. In the tropical and warm winter climates where the shrubs are cultivated, ixora blooms throughout the year in shades of yellow, pink or orange. The tubular flower configuration facilitates pollination by hummingbirds.
- Dwarf and full-size specimens of ixora are used as specimen plants and can be used as hedges, used in flower beds or grown in containers. Full-size varieties grow from 6 to 12 feet tall, while dwarf plants grow to be about 3 feet in height.
- In the presence of pollinators, the flowers will be succeeded by hard, fleshy berries containing seeds. These can be harvested and sown in warm locations that receive at least four hours of sunlight per day. The plants can also be rooted from softwood cuttings.
