How to Get Rid of Ground Moles by Home Remedies
- According to the University of Ohio Extensive Service, a 5-lb. mole can eat 45 to 50 lbs. of insects and worms in one year. Even more impressive is the mole's ability to dig at a rate of 18 miles per hour and traverse 80 feet per minute in preexisting tunnels. If you'd still prefer that this fascinating creature not make Swiss cheese out of your lawn, you can trap it or try home remedies for removal.

Moles tend to steer clear of plants such as marigolds, daffodils and allium. Plant these plants and flowers in a border to fend off moles. You can border your entire yard or just the garden. If you use daffodils, plant perennials nearby so that there is a constant border once the daffodil flowers have died off. - Combine castor oil and dish soap to use as a mole deterrent.soap bubles image by Pomidors from Fotolia.com
While it is not advisable to plant castor beans in your flower border, feel free to apply castor oil to deter moles. The castor bean plant is poisonous to pets and beneficial animals; however, castor oil is not. Castor oil is an ingredient often found in prepared mole repellents. Make your own repellent concentrate by mixing 8 oz. of castor oil, 3 tbsp. of dishwashing detergent and 1 tsp. of linseed oil. When you are ready to use the concentrate, mix 1 to 2 oz. of concentrate to 1 gallon of water, and pour the mixture over the area. Apply with a garden sprayer for broad spectrum distribution, and reapply as needed. - Remove the grubs and your moles will move elsewhere.grub image by Joanna Redesiuk from Fotolia.com
Control your mole population naturally by removing their primary source of food, the grub. Mixing milky spore powder into your garden soil twice a year is a good choice for natural grub control that isn't harmful to plants, people, pets or wildlife. According to Home Harvest.com, application of 1 level tsp. of milky spore powder applied on top of grass in 4-foot intervals will control the grub population. Close the grub restaurant and the moles will move elsewhere.
