How to Remove Windows XP From My PC
- 1). Restart the computer and hold down the "F8" key a few seconds after the computer screen goes blank.
- 2). Click on a user account that is set as an "administrator" and enter the password. Click on "Log in" or press "Enter."
- 3). Go to the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel" from the options. Browse for the "Add or Remove Programs" icon under "Control Panel" and double-click it.
- 4). Locate and click on "Uninstall Windows XP" from the list of items that appears. If you do not see this item, proceed to Step 1 of Section 2 of this article.
- 5). Click "Yes" in the confirmation window that appears and wait for the computer to restart. After the restart, the previous operating system should appear. It may be Windows 98 or Windows 2000.
- 1). Insert the installation CD of the operating system you want to replace Windows XP with. Restart the computer and press any key to boot from the CD.
- 2). Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate to the drive where Windows XP is installed, usually "C:/.," in the Windows partition setup screen. Press "Enter" or the "E" or "F" key to erase and format the drive.
- 3). Press "Enter" to confirm the formatting and choose "Format NTFS (Quick Format)" from the list of options. Press "Enter" again to confirm and wait for the drive to be erased and formatted.
- 4). Select the "C:/" as the drive to install the other operating system on and press "I" for Install, or simply press "Enter."
- 5). Wait for the set up screen to appear and click "Next" or "Continue" as you move through the installation screen windows. Click "Finish" when prompted and allow the computer to restart. Remove the CD from the drive.
