How to Keep Birds Off of Stucco Ledges Around Windows
- 1). Install rows of metal bird spikes on the ledges of your home. Often used to deter pigeons from roosting on ledges and eaves, metal bird spikes prevent birds from landing on the ledge. Bird spikes are available in a variety of sizes designed for different types of birds. Before you purchase, determine what type of birds are causing the problem so you know which size to buy.
- 2). Draping bird netting from the roof’s edge over the ledge keeps birds from accessing the ledge. This method is most effective if the netting edges are secured to the building. If the netting is not secure, birds slip under or around it to get to the ledge.
- 3). Install visual deterrents on or around the ledge scaring birds away. Black silhouettes of predators, such as owls and hawks if hung near the ledge or installed directly on it, may deter birds for a short time, but they soon learn they are not real threats. Hanging holographic visual deterrents are more effective because they move with the wind and appear more lifelike.
- 4). Utilize noise deterrent devices such as those that broadcast distress or predator calls. These sounds keep birds away from the ledge. These devices are more effective is moved periodically.
- 5). Hang blank CDs from the roof so they hang over the ledge. As the CDs move with the wind they will also catch and reflect light which will scare birds away. To hang the CDs simple loop a piece of string or fishing line through the center of the CD and tie it to a nail driven into the roof frame.
