DIY Pocket Watch Repair
- 1). Position the pocket watch face-down on a flat surface.
- 2). Disassemble the pocket watch with a small screwdriver. Remove the pallet lever, the small mechanism that controls the balance wheel.
- 3). Use a watch blower to apply a few puffs of air onto the balance wheel. Examine the movement of the balance wheel. It should move freely and regularly.
- 4). Tighten the balance wheel, should it not move freely or if it's too wobbly. Use tweezers to tighten the wheel, as it may be challenging to get into such as small area with your fingers.
- 5). Examine the balance for obstructions, such as small screws from other components that are not completely tight and stick out onto the wheel. Tighten any obstructions with a small screwdriver.
- 6). Apply a small amount of watch oil on the balance wheel and other parts that may cause friction.
- 7). Assemble the pocket watch in the reverse order you disassembled it.
