How to Grow Spanish Lavender Indoors
- 1). Obtain a pot at least 2 inches wider than the container holding the Spanish lavender plant. Use only pots or containers with drainage holes and place the pots on drainage trays.
- 2). Fill the new pot with a few inches of a mixture of 2 parts all-purpose potting soil and 1 part sand. Remove the Spanish lavender from its original container and place the plant in the center of the pot.
- 3). Add or remove soil to adjust the height (if needed) until the plant sits at the same height as previously planted. Leave a space of 1 inch between the top of the pot and the surface of the soil.
- 4). Fill in the area around the Spanish lavender plant with the soil mixture. Firm the soil and then water it thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. Allow it to drain completely and pour the excess water out of the drainage tray.
- 5). Place the potted Spanish lavender in an indoor location with direct sunlight for several hours daily. Turn the pot weekly for even growth, since the plant will grow toward the sunlight.
- 6). Allow the soil to dry to a depth of 1 to 2 inches before drenching it until water flows from the bottom. Follow this practice in spring, summer and fall. Water the plant less often during winter.
- 7). Apply a half-strength, water-soluble, 10-20-20 fertilizer twice a month during spring, summer and fall.
- 8). Trim the plant as needed to maintain size and shape, but never remove more than half of a season's growth at one time. Cut off spent blossoms to encourage a second round of flowers.
