Designed to run Windows Vista, the Satellite A135-S2246 is a mainstream, midrange notebook computer. Although the A135 series includes higher end computers, the S2246 is on the lower end of the range, with minimal RAM and a Celeron M processor. The A135 computer is easy to find, since it is sold both online and in the retail channel. - Equipped with an Intel Celeron M, the Satellite has a 1.73 gigahertz clock speed and 533 megahertz front side bus. Although it ships with 512 megabytes of DDR2 memory, it has two slots, which can hold as much as 2 gigabytes of PC2-4200 memory.
- The Satellite ships with a slim 80 gigabyte drive, which has a spindle rotation speed of 5400 rpm. It also includes a combination DVD reader and CD rewriter with read speeds of 24x on CDs and 8x on DVDs.
- Toshiba put an ATI Radeon video chip in this computer that shares 128 megabytes of the computer's memory. It drives a 15.4 inch widescreen display with a 1280x800 resolution.
- The 85-key keyboard on the Satellite A135 includes a "Start" key for use with Windows. Pointing is handled by an integrated touchpad, and multimedia functions are supported by hard buttons for basic CD/DVD activities. It also can produce audio output through both a headphone jack and built-in stereo speakers.
- Like many notebooks, it includes an Ethernet port capable of up to 100 megabit-per-second transfer speeds. It also has a 56k software modem and an Atheros wireless LAN system, which can operate over either Wireless-B or Wireless-G networks.
- With four USB 2.0 ports, this notebook is expandable. It also has both a microphone-in and headphone-out port to work with its sound cards. Video can be output to either a traditional VGA monitor or to any analog television set that can accept a signal from the computer's S-Video port. The computer also ships with telephone and Ethernet ports as well as an open Type I or I PCMCIA card slot. It does not, however, have legacy ports for PS/2 keyboards and mice, parallel printers or serial modems.
- A 6-cell 4,000 milliamp-hour lithium ion battery ships with the computer. It can be recharged using the computer's 65 watt, 19 volt power supply in as little as four hours.
