How to Cut a Laminate Countertop for Removal

    • 1). Measure 4-foot sections of countertop and create marks to indicate cut placement.

    • 2). Place wedges of scrap wood underneath the countertop to raise it off the cabinets. If the countertop is already off of the cabinets and resting on the floor, use scrap wood to raise it off the floor by at least 2 inches. Elevating the countertop prevents the saw blade from cutting into the finished cabinets or flooring.

    • 3). Place the table of the saw onto the edge of the countertop. The circular saw's cutting blade should be at a slight distance from the countertop edge. Squeeze the trigger to power up the saw.

    • 4). Slide the saw across the countertop in a slow and controlled manner, keeping the saw table pressed firmly against the countertop surface. Pushing the saw too quickly may cause the blade to bind or large chunks of laminate to lift off the countertop surface.

    • 5). Cut countertop sections that the circular saw could not reach with a reciprocating saw equipped with a short blade.
