How to Remove a Starter on a 1999 Automatic Nissan Sentra
- 1). Pull the car into your garage, and turn it off.
- 2). Put wheel chocks behind both rear tires to avoid the risk of the car moving while you are working on it.
- 3). Open the hood, and remove the negative (black) battery cable. To do this, loosen the nut, and pull the cable off.
- 4). Raise the car with the jack, and place jack stands under the car. Remove the jack when the jack stands are in place.
- 5). Use masking tape and markers to mark the position of the electrical wires on the starter. This is so you know how to reconnect them when you install the new starter.
- 6). Remove the wires by loosening the nuts with a wrench.
- 7). Remove the bolts holding the starter in place with a ratchet and socket. When the bolts are out, pull the starter from the engine by hand.
- 8). To replace the starter, follow the removal steps in reverse.
