    Expert Insight

    • Boiling water is an excellent way to kill weeds, according to the United States Forest Service. The water melts the waxy surface of the weed's leaves and kills the plant.

    Warning

    • Boiling water does not discriminate in the types of plants it kills. Make sure that no plants you want to keep are in the vicinity when your pour the water on the weed. Also ensure that no other person is nearby and that you pour carefully to avoid scalding yourself.

    Considerations

    • Consider boiling the water in a tea kettle and carrying the water outside in a bucket. After the water is heated, you can place some towels in a bucket and then put the kettle on the towels. This method reduces any risk of burning yourself when carrying the water out to your lawn.
