How to Add Icons to the Windows Vista Notification Area
- 1). Open the Windows Start Menu by clicking on the Start button in the left corner of the taskbar.
- 2). Right-click on any blank area of the menu. A context menu will appear on-screen.
- 3). Select "Properties" from the list of options in the context menu.
- 4). Click the "Notification Area" tab. Here you may select which system icons you want to be shown (Clock, Volume, Network, Power). Check or uncheck the boxes next to the icons you wish to be displayed.
- 5). Click "Customize" to further modify the notification area. You will be taken to a list of displayable icons, and you may now add (or remove) whichever icons from the list that you choose. To do so, simply click on the icon you wish to show (or hide) and select the proper command from the drop-down list. Your options will be "Show," "Hide" and "Hide when inactive." Select the desired setting, and click "OK," "Apply" and "OK" to save your changes and exit the taskbar properties.
