How to Grow Tangerines
- 1). Remove lawn grass in a 3- to 5-foot diameter in an area with full sunlight. Do not prepare a site closer that 6 to 8 feet from buildings, driveways, walkways or fences.
- 2). Dig the hole twice as wide as the root ball and exactly the same depth as the root ball.
- 3). Mix topsoil with compost, peat or other organic material to provide good drainage and nutrients.
- 4). Set plant in hole, making sure the grafting bud union is above soil level.
- 5). Replace soil in hole halfway. Water enough to set the roots in the backfilled soil.
- 6). Finish filling the hole and tamp lightly into place.
- 7). Build a watering ring around the tree slightly wider than the planting hole, about 5 to 6 inches high. Water, allowing the moisture to soak in.
- 8). Water the newly set tree one to three times the first week, then once or twice per week for the next few weeks.
- 9). Fertilize only after new growth appears on tree. Use a fertilizer formula recommended by your local agricultural extension service.
- 10
Spray with pesticide recommended for your area at the first sign of pest infestation.
