Homemade Christmas Snow Globes
- Find a few small or medium-sized jars, such as baby food jars or jam jars. Make sure these jars are thoroughly cleaned and dry. Choose fun and festive plastic figurines, such as snowmen or Santa Claus and his reindeer, or ornaments with Christmas scenes such as churches, sleighs or Christmas trees. Be sure the ornaments fit into your jars.
- Use cyanoacrylate glue or silicone caulk to attach your figurine or ornament to the inside of the jar's lid. If the ornament is particularly small, you might need to attach it to a base to ensure that it will be visible in the jar. Use a piece of a cork or a plastic bottle top as a base. Let the glue dry overnight.
Put a handful of coarse glitter in the bottom of your jar and then fill the jar with distilled or cooled boiled water. Add a quarter of a teaspoon of glycerin to the water to thicken it if you wish--this will allow the glitter "snow" to fall more gently through the globe. Lower the ornament into the prepared jar and screw the lid on tightly. For a tighter seal, seal the jar's lip with glue.
You can decorate the jar's lid with acrylic paint, or dress up the snow globe by tying a ribbon around the jar's neck.
