How to Take Out a Loose Floor Tile
- 1). Dig out the grout from around the loose tile using a grout saw. Scrape the straight blade of the saw forward and back over the grout surface to break and pulverize it. Do the entire perimeter of the tile so the grout of the surrounding tiles won't be affected when you break out the tile.
- 2). Vacuum out the pulverized grout with a hose attachment.
- 3). Hold the tip of your chisel to the middle of the tile and hit it hard with your hammer, making a crater in the center of the tile.
- 4). Cut an X across the surface of the tile with your glass cutter, scoring the glaze from end to end of the tile in two directions.
- 5). Hold the chisel's tip on the scored line, to one side of the center hole, and strike it hard with the hammer. Move the chisel to another part of the same line and repeat. Continue until the tile breaks apart completely at the scored lines.
- 6). Pull out the pieces of broken tile. Vacuum out the debris. Scrape it with your razor scraper to take up the residual grout and mortar. Vacuum again. The space is now ready for a replacement tile.
