How to Replace a Window Motor on a 2000 Chevy Truck
- 1). Remove the plastic cover in front of the door handle, the triangular cover concealing the inside of the outside mirror mounting surface and two small round covers concealing Phillips head screws, one on each side of the door. Use a screwdriver to snap them all out.
- 2). Remove the Phillips head screws on both sides of the door that are under the plastic caps. Remove the bolt in front of the door handle using a socket. Lift the door panel up, which will unhook the panel from the door and pull it away from the door far enough to reach behind the panel and remove all the electrical plugs in the window switch and disconnect the electrical connector for the light.
- 3). Unsnap the plastic retainer on the inside door handle that secures the door latch rod to the handle. Lift the door latch rod out of the door handle lever. Remove the single bolt in the door handle and slide the door handle towards the rear to remove it. Peel the moisture shield back to gain access to the window regulator.
- 4). Tape the window to the frame to support it when the motor is removed. The window motor can be seen through the opening in the front part of the door. Unplug the electrical connector to the window motor. Remove the three bolts securing the window motor to the door using a 10 mm socket. Draw an imaginary vertical line through the window motor to see the bolts along this plane.
- 5). Remove the two bolts securing the window glass to the regulator using a 10 mm socket. Remove the three bolts securing the vertical post using a 10 mm socket. Remove the regulator from the door.
- 6). Unscrew the bolts securing the window motor to the regulator and remove the motor. Install the new motor in the reverse order of removal. Reinstall the window regulator and install the bolts, tightening them securely.
- 7). Install the two bolts in the window glass and tighten them. Remove the tape on the glass. Plug the electrical connector into the window motor. Install the remainder of the components in reverse order of removal.
