How to Lay Commercial Vinyl Tile Atop of Tile
- 1). Go over the tile floor to ensure that it is in good condition. Loose or broken tiles may damage the vinyl flooring if it is placed on top of them. Remove the tiles as necessary and fill the dents in the floor with liquid cement.
- 2). Check the grout joints of the tile floor to see how high they are in relation to the tile floors. Fill low joints with grout or liquid cement. Let the grout or cement dry overnight. Lightly grind the floor with a cement grinder until the floor is smooth. Any dents or imperfections in the floor will be seen in the installed commercial vinyl tiles.
- 3). Vacuum the tile floor.
- 4). Find a starting point for the commercial vinyl tile layout. This point usually is along the longest wall in the room or in the center of the room. Mark the starting point with a chalk line.
- 5). Peel the paper backing from the commercial vinyl tiles. Press the tiles into place on top of the tiles. Begin at the starting point and lay the tiles throughout the entire room. Cut the vinyl tiles as necessary with a vinyl tile cutter.
