What Is a Split Floor Plan?
- Most split floor plans are single-level homes with the living room, dining room and kitchen in the center of the home, the master bedroom on one side and the other bedrooms on the other side.
- All split bedroom floor plans have at least two bedrooms, and most have at least three to four bedrooms. Square footage can vary, but most split floor plans for three- to four-bedroom homes are around 2,000 square feet.
- The main benefit of a split floor plan is that the master bedroom has more privacy than if it were next to the other bedrooms. This allows the occupants of the master bedroom to not have to worry as much about noise traveling between the master bedroom and other bedrooms.
- Because of the appeal of having the bedrooms separated, the price of a home with a split floor plan can be slightly higher than the price of a similar home without a split floor plan.
- Sometimes split bedroom floor plans are confused with split-level floor plans, which are floor plans with a main level positioned halfway between the first and second story of the house. Split-level floor plans do not necessarily have the master bedroom separated from the other bedrooms.
