How to Dry Bamboo Stakes
- 1). Select and cut desired bamboo shoots. Use a small saw to cut stakes at a 45 degree angle. The best time of year to cut bamboo stakes is in the winter when much of the moisture and resin has descended from the plant.
- 2). Add charcoal to the charcoal grill and light. Let the fire burn down so that there are hot coals in the grill but no apparent flames.
- 3). Lay bamboo stakes on the grill. Turn the bamboo stakes once per minute using tongs. Wipe the resin from the sides with the soft rag. Remove from the grill once there is no more resin seeping from the bamboo stakes.
- 4). Place the bamboo stakes in a cool dry area. They need to lay flat in a single layer for two weeks to finish curing. This method prevents insect and mold problems from arising in the future.
