Skylight Install Instructions
- Locate the area where you are installing the skylight and clear the area in the attic. Tap a small nail in the center between the two joists and check the location from inside the room. Mark a circle with a pencil and the up-stand from the ceiling frame ensuring the nail is in the center. Use a key hole saw to cut along that line.
Attach the ceiling frame to the hole with a 1/2-inch screw and plastic lugs. Tighten them through the holes in the ceiling frame. Place plastic heads on the screws. - Find the most direct route for tubing from the attic to the roof in between rafters to place the tubing. Try to keep the length of tubing to under 10 feet long. Tap a nail into the center between the correct rafters. This must be a clear area of roof. Use the ceiling cut out to mark a circle and remove any materials or sheathing in that area using a reciprocating jig saw.
Pull the tube over the stainless steel ring of the skylight frame. Bend the four tabs outward through the tubing and hook it into the wire. There should be two or three wires above this tab. Wrap PVC tape around the junction of the skylight and tubing three times covering the tabs completely. Measure the distance between the top of the roof to the top of the ceiling to get the length of tubing required but add in the amount required for any bends needed. Stretch out the tubing and use a Stanley knife and wire cutters to cut the tubing. - When the tubing and the lower ring are attached to the skylight, slide the base into the location on the roof. The upper part sheet metal flashing must be under the roof material and the felt while the lower part should be on top and installed as regular flashing is. If any parts of this area were removed for installation, reinstall them.
Put in the vents and blank tabs (if applicable) into the top frame and use four of the supplied brass screws to attach the dome. Go into the room and pull the lower stainless steel ring to the ceiling frame and use four sheet metal screws to secure it in place. Put the prismatic diffuser into place face down, flexing it if needed to the ceiling frame and install it.
