How to Make a Katydid Paper Airplane
- 1). Orient a piece of paper with the narrow end facing you. Fold the left side to the right edge, then unfold.
- 2). Flip the page over, fold from the top-center point to the bottom-left corner. Repeat for the other side.
- 3). Flip the page back over. Fold the right-hand edge of the page to the center crease, allowing the layer beneath to flip outward. Repeat on the other side. When finished, your page should almost resemble a figure-eight.
- 4). Slide your finger into the flat edge at the top of the design, on what used to be the top of the page. Pull that center point back, folding the two sides of the as you go. This will form half of a bird base--for more information on what that should look like, consult References 2.
- 5). Fold the downward-facing triangle up toward the front of the craft, then flip the plane over.
- 6). Fold down both triangular flaps at the point where the nose is widest.
- 7). Fold the left triangular flap up so that its edge meets the horizontal crease from the nose. Repeat on the other side.
- 8). Fold both flaps up along the crease.
- 9). Fold the left leading edge of the craft down along the same line as the flaps you folded up in Step 8. Tuck this fold between the flaps and itself. Repeat on the other side.
- 10
Inside reverse-fold the step 8 flaps into the front of the craft. Pull the paper along the center crease upward, and tuck the front flaps inside, creating a flat nose for the airplane. For more information on inside reverse folds, see References 3. - 11
Open the paper along the center crease slightly again. Tuck the corners of this layer of paper into the gap between the flaps from Step 9. Adjust the plane until it's as flat as possible. - 12
Fold the wings and stabilizers. There are two stabilizers which should be at the front of the plane, fold the leading triangle upward about 1/2-inch from the corners. Fold the wings into a pair of facing C-shapes, folding two parallel lines from the front to the back, then folding those wing flaps in half again.
