Front Tire Removal

  • 1). Raise the front of the tractor with a jack. Place a jack stand beneath the frame of the tractor on the side you are going to be working on. Lower the mower onto the jack stand.

  • 2). Remove the center cap from the front wheel, by twisting it off with large pliers. Pull the front wheel off the hub assembly, ensuring the two wheel bearings do not fall out of the front or rear of the wheel. Pull the bearings out with your finger and set them in a clean place for temporary storage.

  • 3). Remove the valve cap from the valve stem by hand. Remove the valve core with a valve stem puller. Let the front tire completely deflate, and then install the valve core back into the valve stem.

  • 4). Wrap a flat blade screwdriver in a rag, and press downward on the front of the tire to separate it from the wheel. Insert a second screwdriver wrapped in a rag and pry the front tire bead up and over the edge of the wheel. Continually pry with both screwdrivers until the front of the tire is off the wheel.

  • 5). Pull the tire upward with one hand. Insert a wrapped screwdriver between the wheel and tire from behind the rear of the tire. Push the tire upward and over the lip on the wheel to remove the rear bead of the tire. Insert a second wrapped screwdriver and pry the entire tire upward and off the wheel.

  • 6). Coat the bead on the back of the new tire with liquid dish soap. Push the back of the tire onto the wheel at an angle, so part of the tire is underneath the front lip of the wheel. Use two wrapped screwdrivers to pry the back of the tire onto the wheel gently. Repeat this same process to install the front of the tire onto the wheel.

  • 7). Pack the entire center hub of the wheel with bearing grease. Insert the rear wheel bearing into the center hub. Install the wheel onto the front spindle of the mower. Install the front wheel bearing, and then the center cap. Twist the cap on with pliers.

  • 8). Inflate the front tire with a tire pump. If the front or rear beads of the tire do not press against the wheel, instead attach a belt around the tire treads. Tighten the belt inward to push the beads of the tire outward against the rim. Inflate the tire to the recommended pressure on the tire sidewall.

  • 9). Raise the mower off the jack stand, and then lower the mower to the ground.
